Our Kitchen table needed refinishing for many many years! I finally did it!!!

Turned out beautiful! I think anyway. Now I need new chairs.

Now when everyone comes home we can fit around the table!!!! Come home so we can try it out!!

Probably the biggest highlight was Ashley accepting a call to serve a full time mission in the Colorado Colorado Springs Mission

Mother's Day 2011

I had a wonderful day today. I spoke with all my children today. Ashley called us and we were able to do three way calling with Ben, Amie & Sarah. It was so wonderful to hear Ashley's voice. I sure miss that girl! She's truly an inspiration to me.

More Remodeling!

We had so much fun remodeling the kitchen we decided to remodel the bathroom. It actually needed it more than the kitchen. We're almost done.

Last Weekend we traveled to Scapoose, Oregon for a Rugby match. It was my 2nd rugby match to watch. It was a great game! It rained the whole time. Happy Boys!! They won!

Guess who's 50!!!!!!!!

My sweet children and their spouses bought me these beautiful flowers for my 50th birthday. They each picked a color: Joe, Sarah and Nick picked the red carnations, Amie & Devin the roses, Ben & Cindy the orange lilies, Ashley the white daisies, Sam the daffodils, 10 of each to represent my 50 years of life. They were strikingly beautiful. I felt so special and I feel so blessed to be their mother.

I love them!!!! That is my children, and the flowers and the wonderful feeling of being loved!

Well we are done with our contractor. He's fulfilled his contract. We asked him to widen the door but he didn't have time. He said call him in three weeks. David and I decided we could do it ourselves or David decided he could do it himself. We had a little difficulty the first day. But it's nothing we can't fix.

Home Coming 2009!

This week was PHS Homecoming week. The festivities started Wednesday night with mudwars, Joe didn't get too muddy. Thursday Homecoming Assembly followed by the big game that night.

Friday we started out at a reception at the Art Center in the Bamboo room, for the court, escorts and parents. It was alot of fun with good people, food and lots and lots of pictures. Then off to Hamley's for dinner and then to the dance.

After the dance a large group of great kids went to Presidetn Wood's house for more fun and food.

I found this plate and placemat at Shopko. I thought I was done with blue. But I just can't help myself. And don't worry rooster Basher's across America if I use this plate it will probably be the only rooster in my kitchen. I just loved the colors especially the teal blue or turquoise.

We hope to install the stove sometime this weekend if David can squeeze it in.

The plumber is coming Tuesday to install the sink and dishwasher. David is busy on the farm so I'm just going to get it done. Then I'll be back in business.

Summer Vacation

Last weekend we went down to Nick and Sarah's for our last little break before returning to school. We had a wonderful visit. We shopped till we dropped. Which doesn't take much.

Saturday we went to the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OREGON. All I can say is WOW! It was wonderful we were there for 6 hours and could have spent more time. It was definately worth our time and money. What a beautiful facility!

They have a 747 just parked. You can walk under it climb on it. (At least there wasn't a sign saying you couldn't).

Nick and Joe were trying to figure out how the wheels fit up inside of the plane. Here's Sam getting sucked into the engine!

My Ashley left us yesterday to return to School. It was sad to see her go, I enjoyed having another women in the house. I'm going to miss her. Now it's back to just me and the boys.

Before Ashley went back to school she wanted us to go and get a pedicure.

So last Thursday Ashley, Carla and I went to Pendleton Nails and got our first pedicure. They had these wonderful massage chairs with foot spas. When we were all done we all felt sooo! pampered. Then we went out to dinner. We decided we needed to make this a Spratling family tradition.

Not so wonderful looking but it felt great! Looks like I could use a wax job too!

I'm looking forward to a wonderful school year. This was my first week back to work. To tell the truth I was dreading it. I felt like I didn't have a break this summer. But to my delight it was a great week. I got lots of rejuvinating hugs from lots of wonderful kids. It's so fun to see them grow. My first group of 2nd graders are now 5th graders and my kinders are now in 3rd grade which I get to work with them again. Many of them couldn't read or even identify their ABC's. Now they are wonderful readers. I work with lots of wonderful people and that makes all the difference in the world.

Progress?

August 16th was my last post and PROGRESS has been S L OW!!!!!!!!!!!! But things are looking up. Dennis has done all that he can do for now with the electrical. Thanks Dennis!

The progress made in 21 days: Countertop decking, electrical outlets and switches (They work too!). And the sofit above the fridge got finished.

Tuesday they are suppose to finish my counter tops YEA!!! Once they do that we can finish up the plumbing. Intall the dishwasher and stove. We could be back in business if all goes well by the weekend. Then Tim our carpenter can finish all the trim. David is going to do the baseboards. That probably won't happen till after they are done planting grain. So maybe by Christmas? Of course when everyone is done I'll have more touch up painting to do.

I still love my floor and the paint. I'm a little dissappointed with the cabinets. When they unpackaged the cabinets the tape used to keep the doors closed ripped off the finish. So all the yellow sticky notes you see indicate that that door needs to be replaced. Of course they said they've never seen that happen before. Just the luck of the draw. I'm just one in a million. Should I be flattered?

Harvest!

This is the first year Sam has worked all day harvest. He is the new stubble buster. Joe graduated to truck driver.
We had about 8 hours of harvest left and it rained, about and 1 1/2 inches. It was actually a blessing in a big way for me. David was able to help me paint the kitchen Saturday. We painted all day! I couldn't have done it by myself.

We painted this room with country cream This picture is more true to life.

This is the Country Cream it looks lighter than it is.

There are the two different colors in the picture. the back splash on the back wall is Country Cottage and the sidewall and the soffits are Ivoire. But this looks really light in the picture it's actually quite dark to me.

Tomorrow they will work on the floor. Hopefully by Wednesday they can start installing the cabinets.

Tomorrow they will finish the sheet rocking and tape it. Dennis is coming back after work to work on the sink area, hopefully he will be all done by Tuesday. I'll probably be painting this week. I ordered my floor, it should be here this week. Our cabinets will be here this week also. When the painting is done and the floor is in then they can install the cabinets. The floor will probably hold us up I still have to decide if I'm going to put in a new sub floor or not and possibly underfloor heating in the little nook. Oh decisions! decisions!

Saturday Dennis came out and worked for 8 hours doing his magic. He rewired the stove and office area. With lots of new updates. I'm pretty excited. Thanks Dennis!

First we took the stove apart as much as we could. Then we took off the door molding and found this lovely notch in the door. That was how they got this beast in here. We were so grateful to not have to tear out a wall.

We pushed it through the living room (it has wheels). Took the sliding door out and the supports, then used plywood to get it through the door and down the steps of the deck. Once we got it to the lawn we used the plywood to roll it to the driveway. David and Andy hooked it up to the bucket of the tractor and took it for a ride to the shop where it is awaiting a new home. Anyone interested?

Our Joseph turned 16 and was ordained to the office of a Priest last Sunday. We're so proud of him.

He didn't get his liscense yet because he didn't get his permit till February. You have to have your permit at least 6 months before you can get your license. Which puts a little hamper on harvest because he can't drive on the roads.

Robert Lynn Spratling

Today was Robert's 18th birthday. It's hard to believe we have been coming to the cemetary for 18 years honoring our son Robert.

I remember the year he died. Tim was graduating from highschool. It was hard for me to think of all the important milestones that I would not experience with my son. He would be a senior this year.

I'm ok my heart is still heavy. But I know the loss is only temporary. Someday I will be able to hold him in my arms again and experience all that I have missed and more. I am truly gratetful for the knowledge we have of Heavenly Father's plan.

Our tradition is to go to the cemetary and clean off his head stone, buy some beautiful flowers and take a family picture. Our numbers have grown and shrunk through out the years.

This years celebration was very special to me. Roberts birthday was Sunday, so Saturday Ashley, Joe, Sam and I went to the temple with our ward to do baptisms. This was Sams first time to go to the temple. That in itself made this day extra special to me.

Afterwards we ate lunch at Famous Dave's it was delicious! Did a little shopping and dropped Ashley back off at the temple to do baptisms with the young Adult branch.

The boys and I went to the cemetary and cleaned up and bought the most beautiful flowers we could find here in Pendleton.

David went with his parents to Nevada to attend the memorial service for his Uncle Max. We missed him.

Sunday David got home around 6:00 PM So we all hopped in the car and headed back to the cemetary and took our annual family picture. It was a beautiful weekend, the spirit of love and piece was abundant.

Sam's 12th Birthday

Besides a friend party Sam was able to celebrate his actual birthday with family in Idaho.

Turning 12 in the church is very special. For worthy young men they receive the priesthood. Sam was ordained to the office of a Deacon. With that office he can now pass the Sacrament. I'm so proud of Sam. He does a great job.

Also for all worthy LDS youth when they turn 12 they can enter the Holy Temple and do Baptisms for those who have already passed on. What a joyful experience that was to be in the temple with three of my children doing that sacred work.

Easter 2009

This is one of my favorite easter traditions. After the egg hunt, everyone dumps there basket in a big pile and they split up the candy evenly. There are never any bad feelings just one of unity and love.

This Easter was fast Sunday. Always hard but on Easter pure torture for the kids. I was so proud of all of my children. I have always told them if they fast and pray for someone or something it is so much easier. They never seemed to get it, but this time we were all fasting for my sweet little niece Lucy. They all did it without any complaint. Joe and Sam said they weren't even hungry. We Love You LUCY!

Sad news!

This is Lucy Louise Lunt my grand neice. Raquel's daughter Cherisse's daughter. She is the same age as Savannah. Isn't she beautiful!

She has just been diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).

Her prognosis is not good. Remember her and her parents in your prayers.

We traveled to Idaho this weekend to see Ashley in the Opera Die Fledermaus. We had so much fun. Grandma Childers and Raquel came too. I'm so proud of Ashley she did a fantastic job. This is my attempt to bring you all to the opera. Wish you were there!

Adele(Ashley's Character) gets a letter from her sister inviting her to go to a party. Adele really wants to go so tells her mistress her aunt is sick hoping she will give her the night off. Her mistress refuses because her husband is going to jail tonight and she needs her help.

Adele doesn't give up easily!

Adele suspects something fishy is going on! Ends up the husband does not have to go to prison till the morning. His old friend plays a cruel joke on him. Inviting him to the same party Adele wants to go to. Convincing him not to tell his wife. The husband agree's and the friend tells the wife what's going on. So Adele, her mistress and her husband are all planning on going to the big party. Adele and the husband do not know that each other is going. The wife thinks Adele is visiting her sick Aunt. So the fun is on. Unfortunately that's all we get to see. I would love to see the whole opera!

We are celebrating early this year. Ashley is in an opera next week and we are out of school so we will be traveling to Idaho on Sam's real birthday. I promised even though we would be traveling we would still make it a special day.

Christmas 2008

Well we had everyone home for Christmas this year. It was a harrowing experience! Actually once we got everyone here it was wonderful. We were inundated with storms as our loved ones tried to make it home for the Holidays.

Ben and Cindy and there two babies ran into storm in Seattle. Their flight was canceled and they spent the night in the airport. They were able to get a motel room the next night. When the passes opened up David and Joe headed to Seattle to bring them home. Their one day trip ended up a three day trip.

Amie & Devin, were scheduled to arrive on Tuesday the 23rd. There flight was delayed but thankfully they still made it here on the same day just two hours later.

Ashley’s one day trip ended up a two day trip. As mountain passes were closed. They were forced to spend the night in La Grande, Oregon.

Nick and Sarah arrived December 23rd with good passage coming from the south.

And they all made it back to their homes safely. Except for Amie and Devin. Devin will fly out on the 12th of January. Amie and the kids will stay untill the 1st of February. One of her best friends is getting married the end of January. So she will just stay here until after the wedding. Devin will return for the wedding and they will all fly back to Missouri together. We are so excited.

After reading my blog I decided to put a little space between beautiful grandchildren and the gore of The Big Hunt. It just didn't feel right. So maybe this is a better transition!

Cache and I made this haunted gingerbread house while I was visiting. It was so much fun to feel his excitement. He is so funny, he would always say I want to see my house. Then he would try to pick off the candy, we would say no Cache it's decoration. So a few days later we were shopping and we would pick up something and Cache would say no don't touch it's decoration.

I just love watching Cache in this video. He is just full of wonder and amazement. He is so sweet and gentle with his little sister. This was the first time Cache held Naomi. He was reluctant at first but I think he's just fine now.

We decided to ride the Max train to the zoo. So that was a fun adventure. The tracks were being worked on over the bridge. So we had to ride the train to the Rose quarter and catch a bus to cross the bridge. Then get back on the train to go the rest of the way. Our bus driver was the typical bus driver you see in the movies. And drove like a maniac. So when you are driving in the big city and you see a bus coming you just better get out of the way. They have no mercy. And if you dare get on one you better hold on for dear life. The train goes underground just like the subway. Pretty cool!

We had another road trip. We went to Portland Just to relax and eat! We left Thursday and came home Monday. For a few of our adventures we went to the zoo and OMSI. The pictures of Dad sleeping and the dinosaurs chasing the boys are at OMSI.

I finished my second quilt this summer. I made it for Kara Wendell one of our Young women. It was so much fun. Kara left for college last saturday to Southern Virginia University.

This week end Ashley was invited to sing the National Anthem at the opening ceremonies of The Advanced World Aerobatic Championships here in Pendleton. There were 12 countries represented. It was pretty cool.
